THE FACTS OF HEROIN ADDICTION Heroin addictions are widely considered the most challenging addictions to heal. Many heroin addicted individuals--even those who have undergone heroin rehabilitation programs--have a high chance of relapse. Successful withdrawal from heroin requires complex, targeted care by addiction, medical and mental health professionals, due to the physical and emotional pain that heroin withdrawal can entail. At Passages Malibu, we offer a comprehensive treatment plan targeted specifically at curing heroin addiction. Our proven and potent one-on-one treatment plan gathers addiction professionals from multiple disciplines with experience in diagnosing, treating and curing the underlying physical and emotional causes of heroin addiction. While heroin is an extremely powerful opiate, the core causes of heroin addiction generally go beyond mere physical dependency. At Passages Addiction Cure Center, we understand that there are four major potential causes behind each heroin addiction: 1. Brain chemistry imbalances. At Passages, we do not cite genetics as a root cause of heroin addiction. Countless individuals without family members with chemical dependency issues have become addicted to heroin, alcohol and other drugs. Conversely, millions of Americans who do have family members with a history of addiction never become addicted themselves--with either moderated alcohol use or no substance use at all. In our years of experience and expertise in treating alcohol and drug addictions--including heroin addiction--we have found that addiction is merely a symptom. At Passages Addiction Cure Center, our addiction experts collaborate, coming from a host of medical, physical and psychological disciplines, to seek out and resolve the root cause of every client's addiction. Quite simply, we reject the notion of addiction as an incurable "disease," in which relapse is to be expected and feared. We have witnessed case after case where once the true causes of heroin addiction have been resolved in the body and mind, the drive for drug addiction ceases. As an extremely powerful opiate, heroin originates from the opium poppy itself. While all opiates carry addiction potential, heroin is considered incredibly addictive in nature--more so than any other opiate. Most commonly, the heroin rush is achieved through injection into the blood stream, creating a flood of euphoric feelings and anesthesia. Many users "chase" their initial heroin rush, developing tolerance and increasing frequency and dosage levels in an attempt to reachieve the euphoric high they associated with first use. Heroin addiction develops rapidly--often within two to three weeks of first use. As the body becomes heroin dependent, users commonly feel the need to use heroin upon waking in addition to several times throughout the day. While many users seek the euphoria associated with heroin use, the force of withdrawal symptoms help create fast-developing addiction to heroin. Painful withdrawal symptoms accompany abstinence from heroin use, with heightened and severe heroin withdrawal symptoms setting in 18 to 24 hours after cessation. Heroin withdrawal symptoms can vary, but often include hot and cold flashes, excessive abdominal cramps, diarrhea, profuse sweating, mental disturbances such as anxiety, depression and psychosis, intense muscle and deep bone aches, nausea and vomiting and lethargy. These withdrawal symptoms can be so severe--and the complications associated with overdose and withdrawal so serious--that virtually every heroin addicted individual requires professional detoxification and rehabilitation in order to overcome their addictions. As tolerance builds and users attempt to avoid heroin withdrawal symptoms, so does heroin use. Continued heroin addiction can lead to fatal overdoses due to respiratory depression, collapsed veins, cardiac infections, skin abscesses, or blood-borne disease infection such as HIV and Hepatitis contraction from intravenous use. Fortunately, when heroin users successfully detoxify, withdrawal symptoms will subside within a few weeks.
If you or someone you know has experienced heroin addiction, it's important to realize that heroin is most often used to numb and escape physical, emotional or psychological pain. At Passages Addiction Cure Center, we've experienced incredibly high success rates in treating heroin addiction by seeking the source of heroin dependency with an aim at full resolution. Our program has offered hope and healing to countless individuals who have struggled with chronic relapse, years of heroin addiction, and decades of suffering through unresolved pain. At Passages Addiction Cure Center, we strongly believe heroin addiction can be cured--and the lasting sobriety of our program graduates is a testimony to the power of our multi-faceted, targeted approach to curing heroin addiction.
The vast majority of drug rehabilitation centers--even those targeted at heroin rehabilitation--center around a group-oriented approach to treatment. Unfortunately, heroin withdrawal and recovery require a deep, focused and attentive process that cannot be achieved in a group setting. Only in the safety and confidentiality of committed therapy can true healing from the psychological and emotional roots of heroin addiction begin. Group therapy programs at heroin rehab clinics have become notoriously overpopulated and understaffed, short-changing addicted individuals from receiving the depth of healing they deserve for recovery. In the long run, the lack of individualized care and targeted therapy applied at many heroin rehabilitation centers may cut costs for facilities--but proves incredibly costly to the addicted individual. These lapses in care lead to chronic relapse, mental breakdowns, and physical complications as heroin use endures. In fact, the typical heroin recovery program can have cure rates as low as five percent--incdicating that 95 percent of heroin addicted individuals who have been through rehabilitation programs relapse. While short-term rehabilitation may be achieved, long-term group treatment programs experience roughly the same success rates as placebo therapies in treating heroin addiction. |

TARGETED AND EXPERIENCED HEROIN TREATMENT AT PASSAGES
Pax Prentiss, co-founder of Passages Addiction Cure Center, experienced his own painful journey with heroin and drug addiction before finding a cure for his chemical dependency. Through a targeted, multidisciplinary approach and individualized therapy, Pax overcame six years of heroin addiction and the preceding four years of dependency on cocaine, marijuana, alcohol and nicotine. Having tried a myriad of recovery options during his addiction without success, Pax and his father, Chris Prentiss, forged their own revolutionary holistic treatment program. Their successful journey for a cure has now become the backbone of the world’s most successful alcohol and drug treatment center, Passages Malibu Addiction Cure Center. At Passages, we strongly believe that the paradigm of group treatment in addiction recovery facilities must change for alcoholism and drug addiction to be truly overcome in society. Truly curing addictions like heroin requires more than group therapy and one-size-fits-all detox methods that merely provide temporary relief from the symptom of heroin addiction. We believe that the underlying conditions that contribute to heroin addiction and other forms of chemical dependency must be sought out and given customized treatment in order to provide lasting sobriety for clients. Once the underlying causes of heroin addiction have been successfully treated, healing will take place and the drive to use heroin will dissipate.

However, even with successful detoxification and the breaking of physical dependency on heroin, the relapse rate among heroin users remains incredibly high. For this reason, it's vital to pinpoint and treat the underlying physical and emotional issues that triggered heroin use in the first place. When these problems remain untreated, heroin dependent individuals--even those who have completed rehabilitation programs--tend to return to drug use in relatively short order. Only when these issues have been fully medically and psychologically treated can the drive to use heroin become totally eliminated.
